Zawada [zaˈvada] (German: Zowade) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Głogówek, within Prudnik County, Opole Voivodeship, in southern Poland,[1] close to the Czech border. It lies approximately 8 km (5 mi) north-west of Głogówek, 20 km (12 mi) north-east of Prudnik, and 31 km (19 mi) south of the regional capital Opole.
Etymology
The name is of Polish origin, and means "obstacle".[2] Under Nazi Germany, in 1936, the village was renamed Lichten in Oberschlesien to erase traces of Polish origin.[2]
