Ice hockey at the 1998 Winter Olympics – Men's qualification

Qualification for the men's ice hockey tournament at the 1998 Winter Olympics was determined by the standings of the 1995 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships. 14 nations qualified: the hosts (Japan) and the top eight teams in the 1995 tournament received automatic berths, while lower ranked teams had the opportunity to qualify for the remaining five spots.[1]

The men's tournament at the 1996 Asian Winter Games was used as a qualifying tournament and was played in Harbin, China, from 5 to 8 February 1996. Japan participated but already qualified for the 1998 Winter Olympics as hosts, so are excluded from this table.
