A special election was held in the U.S. state of Mississippi on April 22, 2025, to elect a new member for District 23 in the Mississippi House of Representatives, representing northern Mississippi. The first round was held on March 25, 2025. The election filled a vacancy caused by the death of Republican member Andy Stepp, who died on December 5, 2024.[1] This election was held concurrently with a special election in House District 82.
Background
Prior to his death, District 23 was represented by Republican Andy Stepp since January 2024. He was elected in November 2023 with 71.9% of the vote in the general election after defeating incumbent representative Perry Van Bailey in the Republican primary. Van Bailey himself won a special election by just seven votes, only serving a year after being elected in January 2023. The November Republican primary election was a rematch of the January special election.[2]
